Joey Burnaby

I liked the interior of Joey’s because it felt as though I was transported to another place. There was a woodsy feel to everything. The hostess asked us if we wanted to sit in either the dining or lounge area. We weren’t sure which one to go with so that hostess kindly showed us both, and in the end we chose the dining area because we wanted a window seat.

Oh and when we arrived, they didn’t have our table ready for us yet so they offered us some champagne to sip on while we waited. None of us were complaining. I mean who’d say no to free bubbly?

500 entree salad

To start, I chose to get the 500 entree salad ($13.50). It came with a bunch of awesome superfoods in the form of quinoa, barley, baby arugula, grape tomatoes, kale, cauliflower, watermelon radish, roasted almonds, mint, parsley, avocado, and raisins. It also came with a French styled dressing that I opted to have on the side.

I loved the salad, and I especially liked putting little bits and pieces of the salad on the slices of watermelon radish so I got to have everything all in one bite. Creamy avocado, crunchy radish, peppery arugula, smokey almonds, fresh tomatoes, sigh, just oh so lovely. I would be a happy bunny if I had a plate of veggies like this everyday!

Ahi tuna tacos

Grayson was feeling adventurous so he got the ahi tuna tacos ($12). What he was presented with was a four delicate crispy wonton “taco” shells wrapped around a slice of seared rare tuna and ginger coleslaw. It also came with a wasabi aioli that had a carefully placed stripe of toasted sesame on top. Although he found them a little hard to eat, after he got the hang of it, he enjoyed them thoroughly. He said that these tacos completely blew him away and he would have them again some time. So much so that he’s been inspired to try to make seared tuna with me some time, now that’s going to be some adventure.

Bbq salmon bowl

The bbq salmon bowl came with about 4oz of salmon, sauteed veggies, spicy bbq sauce, watercress and white or brown rice.

We thought that the sauce could of been distributed more evenly because part of the rice was drenched in the bbq sauce while the other half had nothing on it at all. The rice was also clumpy and stuck together. The veggies could of been sauteed a little longer because the onions were raw.

Night market curry dip

The night market curry dip came with chips and naan bread. The curry had chickpeas in it and sour cream on top. There was more than enough curry to generously coat all the pieces of naan bread. We actually ended up using some for the rice as well since some of it didn’t have any sauce on it.
