Hokkaido ramen Santouka

Hokkaido ramen Santouka has a location downtown but this time we went to the location by Broadway City Hall. Hokkaido ramen Santouka specializes in Japanese ramen and offers combo meals for those feeling extra hungry or adventurous.

Ikura salmon rice don

It has been literally years since I’ve been to Santouka last so I wanted to see how it fared to the ramen I’ve had since then. Unfortunately, they didn’t really have vegetarian or pescatarian options so I ended up getting the ikura salmon rice don instead. I thought that the salmon would just be salted salmon but to my surprise it was quite sweet. It was almost as though it was put in a maple marinade before being baked. It was an interesting contrast to the saltiness of the ikura.

Chashu ramen combo

Grayson decided to get the chashu ramen combo. It came with a chashu don and a chashu ramen. As always, he was pleased with his meal. I was surprised to find that they don’t make their ramen in house though. When I was walking past the kitchen I saw that every portion came in plastic bags. I wasn’t too impressed with that. I mean, it’s supposed to be a well-known establishment with franchises all over the globe. The least they could do is to use fresh in-house ramen!

  1. Hopefully they were just using ramen that they had prepared in house and packaged like that for serving sizes. Unfortunately though it seems like a lot of good chain places end up doing stuff like that to cut costs here and there, and the product suffers. Fortunately though, that ramen still looks absolutely delicious! It’s probably the best packaged ramen you’ve ever had right?

    1. I know it’s so unfortunate. I miss real ramen so much!
