Ginza sushi

Recently, Grayson and I visited Ginza sushi in Coquitlam. We’ve been eating a lot of Japanese food lately because I haven’t been able to eat a lot of foods. I won’t go into it right now but you can read more about that here.

When the two of us think about where we could possibly go for sushi, we usually end up thinking of Sushi Garden or Sushi Cali if we’re in Burnaby and Seto sushi if we’re in Richmond.

Ginza sushi menu

Ginza Sushi caught our eye because they have an insane amount of specialty rolls. The feel here reminded me of Sushimoto and Sushiville. The menu is creative and the ambiance of the restaurant is cozy with a dash of quirky.

Smoked salmon avocado salad

I decided to go with the smoked salmon avocado salad. It came with a carrot ginger dressing on the side. I’m not sure I was a fan of the $6 price on this salad since most of it was iceberg lettuce. With that being said, I enjoyed my 4 precious slices of smoked salmon and avocado.

Tuna tataki

Grayson and I rarely ever get tuna tataki so we decided to get a plate to share. The tuna was graciously seasoned on the outside so it tasted amazing even without the yuzu sauce. The tuna came to the table at room temperature and the lemon on the side helped add acidity to offset the saltiness of the seasoning.

Sushi rolls

Grayson decided to get two rolls with his meal. The salmon avocado roll and the yam avocado roll. Neither were anything too special but they were satisfying nevertheless. I really liked how they didn’t skimp on the filling and as you can see, they have a thin layer of rice on the outside so you don’t end up tasting just rice. I know sometimes people think that it’s more “bang for your buck” if there’s more rice since it’s more filling but I find that it ruins the experience.

Our goal is to try some of their specialty rolls next time on a visit with friends perhaps since at $13 a roll there’s not many we can order with just the two of us. We saw a table get a specialty roll that was topped with spicy salmon sashimi. I could of definitely gone for that. It was actually so big that it could of stood alone as an entire meal!

I’m so used to doing 2 stars and a wish these days that I might as well do it for my reviews too.

2 stars:

  • Big selection of specialty rolls and appetizers
  • Very friendly service and ambiance

1 wish:

  • Appetizer salads need to have more toppings on it!
