Fufu cafe Hojicha pancakes

Fufu Pancake Cafe is a Japanese souffle pancake shop that’s located on West Broadway. Fufu Pancake Cafe focuses on serving fluffy, cloud-like pancakes topped with quality house-made ingredients. We decided to go to Fufu Pancake Cafe because they were a feature for the Dine Out Vancouver Festival! If you’re wanting to visit for DOVF, you must make a reservation and let them know that you’re planning to order from the special menu.

Fufu Cafe

The menu at Fufu Cafe is pretty simple. With a few classic souffle pancake options and a few sweeter options. If you’re a fan of savoury pancakes, they offer brunch options before 2pm on weekends. They also offer espresso, tea lattes, loose leaf teas, specialty drinks, fresh fruit slushes and fresh fruit sodas.

Every so often, Fufu Cafe offers a specialty menu. This month, they offered a Chocolate Strawberry souffle pancake option for Valentine’s day and a Hawthorne souffle pancake for Lunar New Year. They also offer a tapioca pearl souffle pancake on weekdays that’s perfect for anyone who loves their milk tea.

Dine Out Vancouver 2021

The Dine Out Vancouver menu at Fufu Pancake Cafe offered an option of a Tea Latte or Fruit Soda, a Strawberry White Chocolate Ganache Sandwich and an option between the Chocolate Strawberry Souffle Pancake, Tiramisu Souffle Pancake or Hojicha Souffle Pancake.

Passionfruit Pineapple soda

The Passionfruit Pineapple soda wasn’t something that particularly interested me in the beginning but goodness I was wrong! This passionfruit soda was one of Grayson’s favourite things on our visit. The soda was lightly sweetened with the passion fruit sauce and the chunks of pineapples added acidity. It was the perfect drink even though it was a snowy day. Hands-down would get this again any time!

Strawberry White Chocolate Sandwich

This sweet dessert sandwich had a white chocolate ganache whipped cream filling. I was surprised to find that I could actually taste the white chocolate flavour in the sandwich! Everything paired perfectly together because who doesn’t love strawberry and chocolate? The only complaint is that the bread was quite dry which made the sandwich fall apart easily.

Japanese souffle pancakes

There they were, the star of the show. These little pillowy clouds that were about to turn into magnificent pancakes! They whip up an egg-white based pancake batter and plop it onto a griddle pan like a dome before adding a baking pan on top to shape them into perfect rounds.

Classic souffle pancake

They offer their classic souffle pancakes in two versions. One with salted cheese cream and the other with maple syrup. Since we were already getting a sweet pancake, I opted to order a savoury option to add some contrast. The pancakes weren’t presented stacked but we stacked them up just to do a “jiggle” test on them. The salted cheese on top was a little disappointing because we didn’t taste much of the cheese and it was more just salty whipped cream. Fan of the pancakes, just not a fan of the topping.

Hojicha souffle pancake

Grayson has never been a fan of desserts or pancakes for that matter but this Hojicha souffle pancake left him second guessing his stance. Like the classic pancakes, these pancakes were about 2″ high and was super pillowy in texture. The hojicha cream on top added earthiness and the vanilla ice cream added sweetness. Grayson was obsessed with the house-made hojicha sauce because of how strong it was in tea flavour. I was less of a fan but I did like how it added some earthy notes to the sweet dessert. The little shiratama dango were little glutinous rice balls with a side of red bean. These were almost like an after party dessert for the yummy pancakes!

Fufu cafe is definitely a great place to dine out and grab some insta-worthy photos. It’s perfect for those who like sweet and savoury pancakes because they offer both options! Just make sure that you visit before 2pm if you are looking for something savoury. We will be back!
