Hello chocoholics! It’s been about two years since I participated in Vancouver’s hot chocolate festival (read about it here). I’m not the biggest hot chocolate lover but the Strawberry Fields Forever hot chocolate from Chez Christophe Chocolaterie Patisserie sounded too interesting to pass over.
Strawberry fields forever
Strawberry fields forever is a dark chocolate with roasted strawberries in it. Oracle and I were both expecting it to be bursting with strawberry flavor but found that it was lost in the richness of the chocolate.
If you’re a fan of richer hot chocolate beverages this is the one for you. What did stand out to us was their s’more with homemade strawberry marshmallow and graham cracker. It was so tasty dipped into the hot chocolate because it would melt just enough to be gooey. Overall, we both agreed that the passionfruit hot chocolate we had two years ago was much more balanced in terms of flavors.
When we were about half way through our drink, we decided to get a flaky croissant to share. It was sooo buttery and flaky!
Gianduja Cerise Cake
Another thing I tried from Chez Christophe Chocolaterie Patisserie recently was their Gianduja Cerise cake. This was a rich hazelnut chocolate mousse cake with a heart of cherry confit topped with a hazelnut crunch. The cake had 7-8 layers to it which made it beautiful to look at. It was a nice balance having the hazelnut chocolate mousse alternating with the cherry confit. It was as if a dark forest cake got a huge modern upgrade!
