I was invited to attend the grand opening media event of the second Bump n Grind Cafe last week and I had a total blast. I got to talk to Cheryl one of the owners. She told me all about the history of the cafe and that they decided to open Bump n Grind 2 at this location in the middle of South Granville because it’s community vibe.
It’s not just their location that’s clientele based but their coffees are as well. They are a multi-roaster cafe and offers a variety of coffees. In fact, Cheryl told me that they change up their coffees on the weekly to ensure that you have a new experience each and every time you visit the cafe.

They also offer a variety of brewing methods (ex. pour-over, Aeropress, and French press) so that you can have your perfect cup of coffee. Not a fan of coffee or espresso? That’s okay because their teas are absolutely amazing as well. I tried some of the citrus sencha when I was there because Grayson ordered it and my first reaction was to say “oooohhh.” He said he had never heard me make that sound before. But it’s true, it was delicious. Anyways, if I learned anything that night, it would be that Bump n Grind cafe is passionate about both their customers and coffees.
Although Bump n Grind already has quite the extensive menu when it comes to espresso beverages, Cheryl decided to create not one, or two, but THREE signature drinks for the night! The almond chocolate gibraltar, spiked chai latte with bourbon and duetto with maple whisky.
Almond chocolate gibraltar
After seeing a bunch of people with such a gorgeous looking drink, I just had to go with the almond chocolate gibraltar. The espresso had depth to it and even though I don’t have espresso very often I didn’t find it to be too bitter because the chocolate almond rim sweetened it up. I almost wanted to beg Cheryl to keep this drink around for the regular menu but unfortunately it was just for the evening. 🙁
Mookie
Meet the mookie. Never heard of one before? Well, it’s a cross between a cookie and a muffin! I didn’t really know what to expect when I bit into it but I was pleasantly surprised to find that there were coconut flakes in it. Honestly, I expected it to be a little softer than it was because muffins are generally on the soft side but otherwise it was amazing. I definitely went back for seconds…and fifths.
Peanut butter cup
Another signature pastry from the cafe is the peanut butter cup. Unlike most peanut butter cups…I actually didn’t feel guilty eating this one! The base was made of mainly peanut butter and oats I believe which gave it a granola bar-like texture. Then the chocolate on top sweetened it all up and took the already delicious treat over the top.
Muffins
There were two muffins offered at the event. The lemon ricotta muffin, and the apple cinnamon muffin. I found the muffins here to be extremely light and fluffy. The texture was almost one that was a cross between a muffin and a cake.
Cardamon biscotti
Just when I thought there weren’t any more pastries to try, there were more! This is the cardamon biscotti and the shortbread sandwich cookies. The biscotti didn’t taste strongly of cardamon but you could definitely smell the spice from a few inches away. It was perfectly crispy, crunchy and coffee dunking ready.
Matcha brownie with white chocolate
And last but not least, the matcha brownie with white chocolate. The brownie was very soft, fudgy and creamy in texture but I found it to be a little too sweet for my liking perhaps because of all the white chocolate it had on it. I think that it could of used a little more matcha flavor to help balance out the sweetness but otherwise it was fantastic. Grayson isn’t even a fan of pastries or sweets and he had a couple of them and lil’ bun completely devoured the one that I got to bring home.
