Breka Bakery has 5 locations in Metro Vancouver so no matter where you are you can get some of their pastries! Breka Bakery is known for it’s delicious pastries and being open 24 hours a day. Yes, you read that right, you can get your pastries any time of day at Breka bakery.
Breka Bakery pastries
The bakery offers a variety of bakery treats including donuts, muffins, loaves, croissants, cookies and cakes. They also have a bunch of espresso and tea drinks for you to choose from to have with your pastry of choice.
I noticed that a majority of the people who were sitting in the cafe ordered the cakes to have a their table but I also went later in the day. Perhaps the muffins and donuts are more popular earlier in the afternoon. With that being said, I do appreciate that they make sure that their pastry case stays fully stocked throughout the day instead of having items sold out and leaving it empty because this way customers are always guaranteed that their favorite treats will be there waiting for them.
Being that this was my first time at Breka, I decided to get a few of their muffins and donuts to try out. The muffins are $2.75 each and the donuts range from $1.25-$2.75 depending on the kind you choose.
Carrot muffin
This muffin was so packed full of walnuts and carrot shreds! It was a well balanced muffin and it stayed nice and soft from the moisture in the carrots.
Chocolate pecan muffin
This muffins surprised me because it wasn’t too sweet but it was sooo chocolatey that it tasted fudgy. The pecans were minimal and felt like an afterthought in the heavily chocolate flavored muffin which was disappointing.
Blueberry crumble muffin
We had to choose a classic muffin in there somewhere so we went with the blueberry crumble. We didn’t have any high hopes for this one though because we couldn’t even see any blueberries on the outside of it! There weren’t many blueberries on the inside either but it was a very soft and cake-like in texture which was nice.
Apple fritter
This apple fritter was massive! It was bigger than the size of my hand and packed full of chopped apples. The donut dough was merely to hold all the apple pieces in place and you got apples in every bite. The glaze on top was light and even though apple fritters are known as denser donuts, this one was surprisingly light.
Apricot donut
Light and fluffy doughnut that’s jammed full of apricot filling. Nothing more to it than that but it was simply delicious!
Dulche de leche
It was cinco de mayo so I had to get this donut. This donut was different than the other two in that it was much more dense. The filling in the center was caramelized and super sweet as expected. The top of the donut was white chocolate so it added to the sweetness of the filling. Not a donut I’d get all the time but it was definitely a fun one to try out!
