I’ve heard of Beaucoup bakery and cafe located in Kitsilano for ages now. Not just about the bakery itself, but all about their gorgeous tarts and infamous croissants. When I walked into Beaucoup bakery and cafe, all I could smell were the buttery pastries filled the entire place and more.

Cheese and herb bun

I wouldn’t necessarily call this a bun because it was nothing like a bun. When I think bun I think fluffy and soft but this was like a croissant muffin. A cruffin! Layers of buttery, flaky pastry with salty cheese in between? yes please! Although there was a lot of cheese packed into this, it wasn’t heavy and was nothing like anything I’ve had before.

Chocolate almond croissant

After a little savory you need to have a little sweet right? I don’t have high expectations when it comes to croissants but being that the ones from here are supposed to be the best, I had to give it a try. This croissant was very hard and dense on the outside. This made me wonder how it could possibly be flaky like the ones I’m used to. Once you bite into the croissant, there are chunks of dark chocolate, layers of thin pastry and an almond paste. I definitely didn’t see the almond cream coming. This was a crispy croissant. The pastry was flaky and crunchy but the interior was soft from the moisture of the cream. A perfect blend of two textures.

Lemon yuzu tart

I couldn’t leave without trying one of their gorgeous looking tars and this one caught my eye first. This was an upgraded version of your typical lemon tart. It was definitely tart and I wish that the yuzu came out a little more. The custard was creamy and smooth which was a contrast against the thin crunchy crust. This is the type of dessert you would share because it’s much too rich to finish on your own.

Apple tart

This two layer tart was an upgraded version of your traditional apple pie. The top was made up of thin layers of marinaded compressed cinnamon apples while the bottom was a creamy vanilla custard. Both flavors were light and complimented each other.
