Domino and I decided to catch up over lunch and she suggested that we go to Basil pasta bar. I haven’t had pasta in a while because I don’t typically go out for it so it was nice to have something different. Basil pasta bar is an order at the counter type of place so the service is quick and the food comes out fast. By the time we both ordered, and got a glass of water from the bar, our pasta was already out of the kitchen!

The thing that makes Basil Pasta Bar different than most pasta places out there is that it’s super casual and you can build your own pasta. It’s like chipotle but Italian. You get to choose what type of pasta you want, the protein, the cheese, sauce and veggies. It starts at $10 a plate and if you want to add more meat or have a specialty pasta you just have to pay an extra $1-3 for it. If you’re not big on making your own plate, you can also choose from their house specials.

The two of us decided to make our own pasta plates.

I went with the fusilli pasta, all get veggies and fresh herbs they offered, marinara sauce, and chicken. There was definitely quite a bit of pasta on my plate but not enough of anything else. I probably had 5 small pieces of chewy rotisserie chicken in my pasta and barely enough sauce to cover all my pasta. The marinara sauce didn’t have much flavor to it and it was quite watery as well. It was quite disappointing and the only thing adding flavor were the fresh herbs.

Domino went with the whole wheat penne, mozzarella, chicken, cream sauce and all the herbs. Her plate looked green from the herbs but she didn’t actually have any veggies in hers. Her pasta definitely looked more coated than mine and the cheese added creaminess to the already creamy sauce.

I’m not exactly dying to go back after this particular experience but it’s a good place to go for cheap pasta if you’re in a time crunch!
