Avery Cafe is a Hong Kong Cafe located in Richmond. From the outside, you would have no idea that the interior looks as whimsical as it did. Avery Cafe gave off “high tea” and Alice in Wonderland vibes and is definitely a photo worthy spot to be. In the middle of the cafe, you will find a grand piano playing classical music during your stay.
We decided to order a main dish and a dessert because we just came by for a mid-day snack. The Portuguese chicken rice we ordered came with a free drink and either minestrone soup or corn chowder. I love minestrone so we went with that and got it with an almond drink because I haven’t had one in a while. Both were pretty good.
The Portuguese chicken rice came with a lot of chicken, potatoes and tomatoes. The sauce was quite thick but didn’t have very much flavour to it. The chicken on the other hand was juicy and had a crispy exterior. Yum.
They had a bunch of different Hong Kong desserts to choose from but we decided to go with the grass jelly. You can choose the number of toppings to go on top of your grass jelly. We decided to go with qq balls, red bean and pearls. It also came with a side of syrup to sweeten the dessert if you would like it to be sweeter. I like this option because you can tailor it to your own tastes.
They also have cakes and crepe cakes for dessert but that’s for another day. Each cake looked gorgeous and would definitely be picture perfect.
