Peaked Pies

Peaked Pies

Peaked Pies recently opened a location in Burnaby Heights. It’s located right in front of a bus stop which makes it incredibly convenient of a location. The inside of the cafe isn’t very large but they do have patio seating outside which is perfect for sunny days.

Peaked Pies serves Australian cuisine and offers pies filled with curry, turkey, beef, steak chicken, lentils and kangaroo! It’s called Peaked Pies because you can order your pies topped with a scoop of mashed potatoes and mushy peas!

The Hopper – Peaked!

We decided to try The Hopper because it was filled with ground kangaroo cooked in a cabernet merlot balsamic reduction. We’ve never had Kangaroo before so this was going to be interesting. The pastry of the pie was flaky but because we had a takeout order, it wasn’t as crispy as it would have been. The pie itself was pretty heavy and you could tell it was filled with deliciousness. The kangaroo tasted like ground meat and the balsamic reduction was flavourful and reminded us of gravy.

The mushy peas tasted like fresh peas with no seasoning and the mashed potatoes were super creamy! We liked that the gravy came on the side because it helped our pie hold up in the container.

Minington

A mini version of the traditional Aussie lamington. This is a sponge cake covered in chocolate and coconut flakes. The cake was soft but didn’t have very much flavour to it so you could mostly just take the chocolate. It wouldn’t be a treat we would crave and come back for but it was pretty tasty!

Miningtons

We also ordered an Anzac cookie but they were out so they gave us an extra Minington instead.
