Hanamori sushi revisited

Hanamori is a Japanese restaurant Grayson and I haven’t been to in a while because we don’t eat dinner in the North Rd and Lougheed area often. Hanamori is located in a plaza next to the executive hotel in Coquitlam. The last time we were here we left satisfied so we came back to enjoy a delicious meal.

We arrived at around 6:30pm on a Saturday and no one was at the restaurant yet. However, they had quite a few orders lined-up for pick-up so we took it as a good sign. We noticed things were different the moment we picked up the menu. They had shortened their menu and the items we went there to have like the tea rice and clam udon were no where to be seen. As a matter of fact, they didn’t have any entree options and only offered sushi bar items on the menu.

Maki combo

Since we were going to a picnic afterwards, we didn’t order much between the two of us. The first thing we got was the maki combo. It was priced at $12 for 18 pieces of maki and a bowl of miso soup. So, there wasn’t a lot of food on the plate. We were disappointed because we could have gone to sushi california up the road and gotten much more food for that price. However, the fish and ingredients were high quality making it enjoyable to eat.

Chicken teriyaki roll

Since the maki combo was so small, we decided to get a chicken teriyaki roll and chopped scallop roll as well. Each roll came with 6 pieces instead of 8. The chopped scallop roll was fresh tasting and had a good ratio between the scallop and the rice so you could still taste the scallops. Grayson said that the chicken teriyaki roll was the best one he ever had because the chicken was fried to a crispy golden brown and it was still hot on the inside! I wish I could speak for it too but Grayson ended up having all the pieces because he liked it so much.
