Grayson and I have tried our share of Korean restaurants in the Burquitlam area but we had yet to try Bukchigo Jangguchigo. Bukchigo Jangguchigo is hidden away in a little complex right beside H-mart and there were a few Karaoke bars nearby as well.
The interior has a woodsy theme to it and there was clay Korean tableware all along the walls. Apparently, there is a shelf (left side) where they keep your clay soju cup if you’re a regular so that you can use it again every time you come back.
In comparison to other Korean restaurants, the banchan here was seriously lacking. We only received an iceberg lettuce salad and pickled radish. We weren’t a fan of either of them. But we were able to overlook this because a lot of their menu items were things we hadn’t seen before since they were more traditional Korean items.
These were pan seared basa fish fillets that were coated in egg and then lightly pan fried. It also came with a soy based dipping sauce. The fillets were cooked well and flaked perfectly. I thought they were a little on the oily side but Grayson disagreed
I liked the amount of spice in the soup and there was a good depth of flavor. I thought that the portion was a little larger than most Korean restaurants which was a definite plus. There wasn’t an insane amount of seafood but there was a whole entire block of soft silken tofu in there! I also liked that they offered you black rice instead of white rice because I rarely get to eat black rice and I like it so much better!
Grayson got this Korean style sausage and pork organ soup because he had never tried it before. He never tried the sausage before but he actually enjoyed it and said that it was very flavorful. I guess he’s better at getting by the fact that there’s pork blood in there than I am. Anyways, it came with a bunch of sauces for him to dip everything in and a bowl of rice to enjoy it with.
