Tsujiri Japanese Richmond

Tsujiri Japanese is one of Grayson and I’s favourite spots to grab healthy Japanese food. They never disappoint and we always find new dishes to enjoy there. On our last visit, we tried the ramen and salmon ochazuke. This time tried a tea, cold noodle dish, hot rice bowl and a matcha cake!

Hojicha

A light and refreshing dark roasted green tea. The green tea almost resembled matcha in flavour and was perfect for the warm day. If you’re not a fan of unsweetened or bitter teas, I recommend trying the version with Yuzu flavouring.

Salmon poke

This salmon poke was unlike any I’ve had before. Instead of coming with rice, it came with matcha soba noodles. There was also dashi jelly, tomatoes, avocado, salmon, nori and salad greens. I liked how they had dashi jelly on top to add texture, saltiness and umami flavour. The avocado added creaminess and the tomatoes added acidity. My favourite part was the salmon though because the pieces were packed with flavour from being marinaded. Loved this dish and would get it again!

Unagi ochazuke

Ochazuke is a Japanese rice dish that you pour tea over before consuming. Last visit we tried the salmon version and this time we decided to have try the unagi one. The unagi was cooked well and lightly brushed with a sweet soy-based sauce. The rice was topped with puffed rice, soba sushi roll, umeboshi, woodear mushroom, and green onions. Our favourite part is the dashi tea broth it came with because it added warmth and umami flavour. This dish is one we would never get tired of.

O-matcha cheesecake

This matcha cheesecake reminded us of the one we tried from L’otus cake boutique. It had rich, deep matcha flavour and was lightly sweetened. The cake had a nice fluffy texture but you couldn’t really taste the cheese flavour. The crust was perfectly golden brown and crunchy and I liked how it wasn’t too thick so you could still taste the matcha flavour.

Needless to say, we will be back to Tsujiri Japanese Cafe really soon!
