Toe Dam

Toe Dam bbq is located in a complex with H-mart on North Road. The location is convenient and they call you when a table is ready so you can always walk down to H-mart to do some grocery shopping and come back if it’s busy. After a 30 mins wait our table at Toe Dam was finally ready.

Toe Dam banchan

We decided to order two appetizers and a hot pot to share between the five of us. Our food came quickly and a huge assortment of banchan started everything off. We got potatoes, radish kimchi, seaweed and pickled onions. We weren’t a huge fan of the kimchi or the onions but the seaweed and potatoes were on point.

Seafood and vegetable pancake

This was one of the best seafood pancakes I’ve ever seen. It was full of squid, peppers, green onion, zucchini and more. I hate it when all there is to a pancake is batter. If you’re a fan of Korean pancakes, this is one you need to try.

Japchae

We rarely order japchae because mother deer makes it at home quite often but we didn’t have it for a while so we decided to get it. Japchae is a stirfried noodle dish that is made with sweet potato noodles. These noodles are made with potato starch which gives them an addictingly chewy texture. The portion was generous and it was lightly sweetened by the sauce. There was ample amounts of veggies and beef sauteed into it too. Definitely one of the more evenly distributed japchaes I’ve had.

Beef bulgolgi and octopus hot pot

Last but not least we got the beef bulgolgi and octopus hot pot. We got the medium size since we figured that we already had enough food to go around with the pancake and the japchae. Our hotpot came with lots of beef slices, a small octopus, zucchini, green onions, carrots, mushrooms, and udon noodles. In addition to all that food, our hot pot also came with two bowls of rice. When I asked the server, she said that it was for two people but this was probably could have been enough for three.

The five of us came into Toe Dam with no expectations and left happy with full bellies. This was more than enough food for the five of us and we even had left overs to take home afterwards. If you’re a fan of Korean bbq or hot pot, this is the place to be. If you choose to order the bbq, you need to order two servings so be sure to come with friends when you do. The cool thing about this place is that they have the option to order the Korean bbq meat with the cheese fondue on the sides!
