Before I left for Asia, Grayson and I stumbled upon this lovely Japanese restaurant in West Vancouver. Iki Japanese bistro offers a healthier version variety of Japanese dishes by providing gluten-free, vegan, and brown rice options.
The interior was spacious and had bright decor speckled throughout to add some light to the room.
I thought their menu was sleek and quite extensive
Our meal came with a bowl of miso soup. I found this one to be interesting because it included pieces of carrot, onion, soybeans and chickpeas in it.
Grayson got the chicken terriyaki plate and fell in love with it. He said that the chicken was well prepared and remained moist on the inside. The mushrooms on top added earthiness and there was just the right amount of terriyaki sauce on top so that it wasn’t overpowering. The crispy yam tempura on the side resembled yam fries but on a whole other level.
He also got a tamago nigiri and a salmon nigiri. It was his first time trying tamago and he was pleasantly surprised. I thought it was interesting that it was served in a way where the egg sandwiched the rice instead of the other way around.
I got the power sushi bowl and was completely satisfied with what I received. It had avocado, lettuce, salmon and tuna sashimi, cucumber, edamame and wakame over a bed of brown rice. Even though I enjoyed the bowl, I didn’t get full off of it and wished there was more! But then again, whenever something is super tasty we always want more 😛
