Somehow I managed to find time out of my schedule to catch up with Nat and friends. Nat suggested we go to Honjin sushi in Yaletown close to the Yaletown-Roundhouse station because she loves it there. It was my first time at Honjin sushi but the food was a delight!
I decided to get the oyako don because I was feeling like having something warm instead of sushi. The rice was seasoned with a sweet soy sauce that coated everything. I liked this because sometimes they don’t give you enough to mix in with everything and you end up with pieces of unflavored rice towards the end. The chicken thing was tender and juicy while the pickles added acidity. The egg on top could have been a little more runny but that’s just me and my love of runny yolks talking.
Grayson got the nabeyaki udon which had a really good broth base to it and it was served in a claypot so it stayed hot throughout. The seafood fried rice is another popular dish served here and Nat gets it every time. It’s also served in a claypot so you get to have all the crispy rice that comes along with having the rice pressed along the sides!
