Pho Hoa is a Vietnamese noodle chain that has locations all over the globe. They’ve recently paired up with Jazen Tea at some of their locations to offer bubble tea, slushes and desserts to diversify their restaurant menu. There are a few Pho Hoa and Jazen Tea locations around the Metro Vancouver area. The one we went to on this visit is the Coquitlam location.
The Pho Hoa menu offers a variety of noodle and rice dishes. Their noodle soups are offered in 3 different sizes which I found helpful because usually there are only one or two sizes offered. Something I noticed was how streamline their menu was. I remember coming to a different location years ago and the menu was pages and pages long.
We decided to get a summer roll to share. It was $3.55 which is a high price point for Vancouver. It wasn’t anything too special and it seemed that the rice roll was refrigerated and pre-made because the rice paper was not very soft.
Grayson decided to get the brisket and tendon pho in a large size. Even though it was a large size, there wasn’t much too it and the slices of brisket were quite thin. He said that even though there was broth in the bowl, it didn’t have any depth or complexity of flavor. Overall, it was a very MSG based soup so that was disappointing.
I went with the hot and sour seafood noodle soup. Like Grayson’s pho, there wasn’t much flavor to it at all. It was supposed to be hot and sour but neither were noticeable. There were a few shrimps, squid pieces and tomato slices in there but nothing else. It said that there would be pineapples in it from the menu but I didn’t find any in it.
Overall, our meal wasn’t very eventful and even though we joined their loyalty program….I doubt we will be back anytime soon.
