Hanwoori Korean Restaurant

Grayson and I were feeling Korean again…there seems to be a trend of this lately but I don’t care because I love me some Korean food. Originally we were going to head downtown to go over to either  Sura or Ma Dang Goul, but the weather didn’t look too optimistic so we decided to stay in Burnaby instead. That’s how we ended up at Hanwoori Korean Restaurant.

It has actually been a while since we have gone for Korean in Burnaby since we usually go to Burquitlam for it instead. But we felt like shopping today so we ended up in Burnaby instead.

Hanwoori Korean Restaurant menu

The menu was extensive and they offer a variety of combination meals, BBQ meats, soups, noodles, appetizers and hot pot style casseroles

We were both oh so happy to see the variety of banchan they have here! Six varieties? Yay!

Banchan

Clockwise from the top: braised potatoes, marinated beansprouts, kimchi, pickled daikon, pickled onion?, steamed broccoli with sweet chili sauce

Bulgoki dookbaeg

Grayson’s not a big fan of Korean soups because he always says that there is barely any meat inside and is never impressed with the way it’s cooked.

So the fact that this bowl of marinated beef soup actually impressed him really says something! He said the soup had a great depth of flavor and that there was a good 3-4 pieces of meat in there instead of the usual 1-2 he gets when we go else where. He wasn’t completely full at the end of it but it was enough food to leave him feeling satisfied.

Fish Maeoun Tang

A Spicy cod soup! If you’ve been following me for a while, you’d know that typically I get Sundubu (spicy seafood tofu soup) each and every time I go to a Korean restaurant. BUT I’m trying to explore foods outside my comfort zone more these days so I decided to get this spicy cod soup instead!

And I’m so glad I did because not only was the broth spicy enough for me, but there was so much cod inside! I swear there was a good half a fish in there.

The cod was cooked perfectly flaky and I could not be happier with the amount of veggies that were present in the pot either. My only criticism is that the cod had so many pin bones that part way through I got tired of picking them out but it’s deliciousness kept me wanting more so I had to keep going 😛

Our total wasn’t too bad either and we were both super full! I even took my whole bowl of rice home because my soup was so filling!

Summary

1: Never again | 2: Bad | 3: Average | 4: Good | 5: Amazing

Food: 3
Service: 3.5
Value: 3
Ambiance: 3

Would I come back? yes
