Green and Oak…a year later

It’s been a while since I’ve gone for Malaysian/Thai food so when Mother deer asked where we should eat out one evening, I capitalized on the idea by saying we should go to Green and Oak for dinner. Green and Oak is located on Hastings and Boundary. They have parking at the back as well as street parking.

Tom yum noodle soup

I would love to say that I got something else this time but…no I went with my usual Tom Yum noodle soup with chicken again. It’s never gone wrong so why switch now right? The Tom Yum soup here is different than the one at Bai Bui in that it’s much more sour from the tomatoes so if you’re not a fan of sour flavors, this isn’t the menu item for you. You can read more about it in my previous review.

Hainanese chicken

Brother deer decided to go with the Hainanese chicken. He said that the chicken was soft and tender but he could have done with more of it on the plate since there wasn’t very much of it. The chicken broth it came with was light but flavorful and the turmeric rice could have done with less water because it was a little on the sticky side. Brother deer isn’t a huge fan of using the ginger onion topping but he loved putting the hot sauce on the chicken.

Pineapple fried rice

Mother deer got the pineapple fried rice. It had a few shrimp and pieces of pork in it to add protein. Compared to the one from Happy Day Cafe we had a while back, this was a bit on the salty side so she ended up mixing Brother deer’s bowl of turmeric rice into it to help mellow out some of the flavors. The dish overall was pretty tasty though with a good balance between rice and protein. Anyone else get annoyed when they order a fried rice and all they get is rice?
