Anh and Chi

I’ve been wanting to try Anh and Chi for a while now since I’m always looking for new unique Vietnamese food to try. Anh and Chi is located on Main Street on the boarder of Vancouver and Kitsilano. The best part about the location is the free parking in the area 🙂

Anh and Chi interior

The interior of the restaurant is clean, modern and classy. It’s woodsy themes make it homey and it’s stained glass windows add elegance. When we got into the restaurant at 7pm on a Saturday night, we thought that there would be no hope for a spot. I mean the line was out the door!

Fortunately, everyone waiting for a table was a larger party and we got a seat at the bar right away. Yes, we were one of those people who end up sitting at the bar and don’t even order a drink.

Vermicelli bowl

Our dinner arrived shortly after the bartender took our order. Despite the fact that we both wanted noodle soup on a cold day, we went with the vermicelli bowl instead.

This was no ordinary vermicelli bowl though. It came with spring rolls, grilled chicken and a grilled prawn. I don’t typically like spring rolls but these were amazing. They were crispy on the outside but had enough filling and good filling in it to keep it juicy even without the dipping sauce. The prawn and chicken were both marinaded and flavorful with the perfect amount of smokiness from the grill.

Chicken curry

The other dish we decided to get was from the family style menu. Now when we ordered the chicken curry, we didn’t expect to get a huge bowl of it. Even though the curry was described as being “mild” I thought that it packed some heat. It wasn’t the in your face kind of spice though. It was more of the slow burning that builds at the back of the throat that gets mellowed out by the creamy coconut notes in the curry.

And unlike the curry where you order at most Thai restaurants where you barely get any actual chicken chunks in there, this came with two drumsticks and a chicken thigh with the added bonus of sweet potatoes. We ordered this with a side of rice for Grayson to have with it. I had it with some of the rice noodles from our vermicelli bowl. It was excellent both ways.

We all know how much I love Mr. Red Cafe so it should be no surprise that I loved it here too.
