Xiang Yuan Qiao – Coquitlam

Just when I thought I survived flu season it got me right at the beginning of this year. Grayson and I were going to go to deer garden again but we’ve been there too often lately so we decided to go to Xiang Yuan Qiao Coquitlam.

Xiang Yuan Qiao sauces

Just like the location in Richmond, the Xiang Yuan Qiao Coquitlam location has a shelf with an assortment of sauces. They have the garlic, cilantro, green onion, pepper oil and chili oil to choose from. If this isn’t enough flavoring for you, they also have vinegar, seasoning oil, and salt on the shelves.

We found the chili and pepper oil to be different here. The bowls contained more oil in it than chili peppers or pepper. This was unlike the one in Richmond where there was quite a bit of “sediment” at the bottom to scoop from. We also didn’t like that they used disposable containers here instead of dishware for the sauces because there is so much more plastic waste this way.

Cross-bridge noodle pot

Last time we decided to get a Cross-bridge noodle pot and a rice noodle pot but that was too much food for the two of us so we decided to get a two person rice noodle pot this time instead. We liked this option because you got to choose 3 different proteins to put inside instead of just one. We decided to go with chicken, beef balls and fish. The pot also had spinach, 2 quail eggs, assorted mushrooms, and bean curd inside.

We thought that this portion would be just enough for the two of us since “two person portion” can be quite subjective. But, we were wrong because we found it difficult to finish it all once again.

Needless to say, this restaurant has slowly but surely climbed up to the top of our “go-to noodle shop” list. They have large portion sizes, option to customize flavors, and delicious soup base.
