It’s been a while since we’ve visited a ramen spot and Torizo Ramen did not disappoint. They are different from other ramen restaurants because they focus on having a chicken soup base instead of pork. This makes their broth lighter and more refreshing!
We felt adventurous with our meal and decided to try their chicken breast strip tempura. It was juicy even though it was chicken breast meat and we loved the yuzu sauce on top. We only wish that there was more of it to add more acidity to the dish.
To contrast against the chicken breast tempura, we decided to get the shio karaage. This was made with chicken thigh meat and super crispy! There was the perfect amount of seasoning and it was even juicier than the chicken breast counterpart. I loved that they added the lemon for some acidity but would have liked it more if it came with a dipping sauce.
You wouldn’t think that chicken miso broth was was creamy as it was but it was amazing! The broth had a level complexity to it that I didn’t expect from a chicken broth which was amazing to see. It had lots of veggies in it too which was wonderful because usually ramen doesn’t come with much beyond beansprouts, wood ear mushrooms and chicken. I would definitely recommend and order it again.
Look at those noodles! They were so chewy and soaked up lots of delicious broth.
We were a little more adventurous with this pick and it was perfect for the warmer day. The chicken broth was lighter than the previous one and cold! The flavour of the yuzu wasn’t very strong but there was just enough in the background to leave you with the perfect amount of acidity. The chicken cha-shu was made with chicken breast so it was on the drier side compared to fatty pork chashu but with a little both of broth, it was amazing
A few more adventurous picks to go around! This duck ramen was easily one of Grayson’s favourites of all time. We loved the idea of having sous vide duck in the ramen to add a twist to the original chashu versions. The pieces of duck could have been a little bigger but they did not shy away from giving us a ton of veggies.
Out of all the ramen dishes, this was the one I was the most intrigued about because the chicken broth was jellied! Instead of having liquid soup, what I got instead were little pieces of broth in the form of jello. This made it a little tricky to eat because the soup was in pieces but because this was the case, each piece of noodle got coated in soup. While the soup was cold, the spicy miso chicken warmed it up and the walnut added nice texture. The soup itself wasn’t very spicy or did it have a strong nutty taste considering it was tan-tan but delicious nevertheless.
