Hello! T-fresh has come to Vancouver! T-fresh is a dessert shop that originated in Taichung, Taiwan. They specialize in fresh taro balls hence the name T-fresh. I fell in love with taro balls when I visited Jiu Feng Old Street when I was living in Taiwan and even tried to make them myself!

We were so excited to visit T-fresh because we love taro QQ balls! It was pretty quiet when we got there with only one group sitting inside. The thing we noticed right away was a burning brown sugar smell. Originally we came to sit in and try their taro duet dessert but the smell was so strong that we decided to grab drinks instead.

I tried SO HARD to grab a good photo but the reflection in the cafe was not helpful! The full menu is also on their website (link at the end of post). T-Fresh offers a few Taiwanese desserts on their menu. They have taro duet, and mashed sweet potato. Each of these desserts come with a base of grass jelly, egg pudding, tofu pudding or brown sugar jelly. The desserts are then topped with a scoop of taro, or mashed sweet potato depending on which flavour you pick. The desserts also come with red beans, pearls, and taro balls.

For warmer days, you can choose to have their shaved ice and add on toppings! I like that they have a jumbo shaved ice where you can choose 5 toppings so you can pick the ones you like instead of having it pre-set!

Fresh milk tea with pearls

This milk tea with pearls was $6 which is pretty standard pricing for milk tea with fresh milk. I was hoping that at this price point it would be a quality drink but I was wrong. The milk tea didn’t have tea flavour and tasted watered down even though we didn’t order it with ice. While there was a good amount of pearls in the drink, Grayson said they didn’t taste fresh and I agreed. The pearls were hard and not very chewy. I expected better being that they serve pearls as part of their taro desserts. I hope their desserts are better than their drinks.
