Sweethoney Dessert

Forbidden rice coconut pudding

I’ve been craving Hong Kong dessert for a while now and decided to try out Sweethoney Dessert. There are a few sweethoney dessert locations in Vancouver but we went to the one on Lougheed. The cafe is not open for dine-in at the moment so we had our order to-go.

Sweethoney dessert offers a variety of slush drinks, hot tea drinks, coconut milk base drinks and cream foam drinks. There is a large variety of them and each one sounds like a dessert in a cup! The desserts here are pretty simple with either a mango or coconut base and lots of toppings on top.

In addition to their sweet drinks and desserts, they also have snacks. Their snacks include takoyaki, chicken wings, chicken karage, shumai, curry fishballs, popcorn chicken, calamari, sausage and fries. All perfect for a late night snack.

Purple rice and coconut pudding

I was excited to try the purple rice and coconut pudding but I was disappointed. The pudding had a hard texture to it as though it had too much gelatin. It was not soft or creamy even though it had a coconut milk base. The forbidden rice at the bottom was hard almost as though they were not cooked through. Overall the texture of this dessert was off and I couldn’t have more than one bite. Needless to say, it was disappointing especially since it was $7!!!

Coconut sago

The coconut sago dessert soup was sweet and had rich coconut flavour. I was glad that it didn’t use fake coconut flavouring and you could tell it was rich coconut milk from a can. The sago was made well and this was a far better dessert than the pudding. Although for $7, it seemed a bit high of a price point.

Overall, the service was great and we liked the variety on the menu but the desserts were good enough for me to come back for more.
