Sushi Mori

Sushi Mori is located around the Coquitlam centre area. Sushi Mori has a large interior which makes it great for groups and the creative menu offers many options. We’ve been to numerous Japanese restaurants in Coquitlam including Matoi sushi and Sushi Ginza. But, we finally found what seems like out go-to spot!

I knew that Grayson would love the restaurant before we even arrived judging by the photos on their site. My thoughts were then confirmed when he was as excited about the tree in the middle of the restaurant as I was.

The menu at Sushi Mori was extensive. It was a good 20 pages long and there was sooo much to choose from! We finally narrowed it down to a few choices but we will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu!

Shrimp and scallop salad

This salad was topped with a generous handful of scallops and 3 prawns. I think that they deep-fried them so that they cooked quick without making them tough. The salad had mixed greens as the base with pickled beets, celery and cucumbers on the side for you to add into the mix. It comes with a fruity dressing made up of apples and oranges for you to enjoy it with but if you’re not a fan of sweet dressings, you can choose to put the yuzu one on top instead. Our only complaint is that it should have been in a bigger bowl so we could mix everything together easier!

Smoked salmon tacos

These are Sushi Mori’s rendition of sushi tacos. They were definitely not what we expected when we got them because we thought they would be similar to the ones we got at Alpina.

Instead of being in shells, they arrived in cups. The base was a crispy shell made out of rice flour I believe? Then went the smoked salmon, mixed salad greens, beet spirals and a little bit of a salsa with jalepeno. These came with an avocado yuzu sauce and a sweet chili sauce. We thought there was too many mixed greens on top and the fact that it was presented in cups (although pretty to look at) made it difficult for us to eat them.

The best part about these rolls was how generous they were with the salmon and avocado filling. Even when there wasn’t very much salmon on the inside we didn’t mind because the avocado made up for it!

Spicy salmon roll

This was not your run of the mill salmon and cucumber roll topped with siracha sauce and called spicy. The hot sauce on top packed a punch and I liked it better than the version where they put diced up salmon mixed with hot sauce in the middle.

As you can probably tell, we both enjoyed our visit here and we will definitely be back the next time we’re in the area to try more of their dishes. The thing we liked the most about the food here was the variety they offered. You’ll definitely be able to find something you want here whether it’s one of their salads topped with grilled seafood, aburi, specialty rolls, noodles or hotpot.
