Shang: noodle house

Hello friends! Grayson and I went on quite the adventure last weekend. We started off in New Westminister, then we decided to take the new Q to Q ferry over to Queensbourgh before deciding to go to the Queensborough landing outlets. By then it was pretty late so we chose to head on over to Starlight Casino to see what there was to eat around there. After a few moments of indecision, Shang: Noodle House was where we ended up going.

Shang: Noodle House is part of the Kirin Chinese restaurant group so we had high hopes for what we were about to try. Shang: Noodle House is known for their Reishi mushroom noodle soup but there were so many other things on the menu that we didn’t end up trying that out.

Radish cake with scallop

To start, we decided to get a Radish cake with scallop to share. Grayson has been trying to get me to go for dimsum with him for a while so ordering this was a happy compromise. If you are a dim sum for dinner kind of person, they also offer crystal dumplings, siu mai, and a bunch of deep fried items. The radish cake was soft and slightly crispy on the outside. I like it crispier for textural contrast but I was happy with it regardless. The radish cake had radish flavor and adding a bit of chili oil on top made it all the more delicious.

Laksa noodles with egg, seafood, and chicken

I decided to get the laksa noodles with egg, seafood, and chicken. I liked that there was a variety of proteins in it because usually it’s just one or the other. While I was happy with the ample amount of seafood in my bowl, the soup could of used more coconut flavor. With that being said, the noodles were definitely the star of the show. They weren’t as chewy as regular ramen noodles but they still had a bite to them. All their noodles are hand-pulled and housemade. If you haven’t had hand-pulled noodles before, they are worth the try because they are unlike anything else.

Sakura premium pork chop ramen

They were feature a sakura premium pork chop ramen with lobster bisque on the menu so of course Grayson had to go the luxurious route and try it out. He said that the pork chop reminded him of the boar he had at Notch8. It was super soft and tender to bite into. He liked that the porkchop was on the side because otherwise it would have lost the crispiness from being panfried. The lobster bisque wasn’t the creamy kind you would find at westcoast restaurants. Instead it was a lighter, tomato based version. It also came with assorted frozen veggies and broccoli.

Quick bites:

  1. Would come again because there is so much variety to choose from
  2. Definitely try the sakura premium pork
  3. Housemade ramen is a must!

  • I envy your restaurant visit (in a good way 😀) because I am the original noodle freak. Seriously, my fave late night snack = rotini noodles sprinkled with cheese. If I'm feeling energetic, I add grilled shrimp. You've given enough info for me to try my hand at another recipe. Just added it to the Meal Planning section if my bullet journal. Super thx!
