Palate Kitchen

Palate Kitchen brunch

Palate Kitchen is located in downtown Vancouver and is a gorgeous two story heritage building. The interior of the restaurant is lit with chandeliers and a sky-lit ceiling. We were definitely enamoured by the aesthetics the moment we walked through the door. Although the interior looked elegant, it was quite loud on the inside with the open kitchen, diners and background music.

Mimosa

You can’t go to brunch without a mimosa…or three so we decided to grab a few of the mimosas for 2 to try out. They have 4 different juices to choose from (orange, pomegranate, grapefruit, pineapple) but orange was our favourite. I also love that they use freshly squeezed juice!

Kefta skillet

We had the kefta skillet to start. It was a nice cozy appetizer to start off our meal. The meatballs had a good amount of seasonings and the tomato sauce added more to the blend of flavours. Not to mention the gorgeous medium poached eggs on top! Delish.

Tuna tartar

To lighten things up we decided to grab a tuna tartar. It came with 6 slices of baguette which was more than enough to top with tartar. I loved how the avocado added creaminess, mango added sweetness, tomatoes added acidity and sprouts added texture. The tuna was amazingly fresh as well. I’d definitely order this one again.

Lamb Ragu

To round out our meal, we ended with the lamb ragu. I didn’t realize it was pasta but was glad it came as one. The lamb was tender and we appreciated the generous cheese slivers on top. Our only complaint would be that we wished there was more sauce because the pasta was a bit dry. We ended up adding some of the tomato sauce from the skillet to make it saucier.

All in all, Palate Kitchen is a total gem! I can’t believe I hadn’t heard of it sooner because the food is tasty and they also have high tea if that’s more your thing.
