Old Xian’s -Burnaby

Old Xian’s is one of those places that that Grayson and I always mean to revisit because it’s so good but never do because we’re never in the area. With that being said, lately we’ve made it a mission to revisit the places that we’ve enjoyed because we’ve been in a bit of a rut when it comes to where to eat. Old Xian’s was the first on the list.

Beef noodles with tomato and egg

Since Grayson enjoyed the beef noodles with tomato and egg so much last time, he decided to get it again. He spent some time debating which kind of noodle he wanted but in the end, he went with their infamous thin and flat biangbiang noodles. If you’re ever wondering which kind of noodle to go with when you’re here, go with the biang biang because it’s unreal!

Old Xian’s cold noodles

Since it was a hot day, I decided to go with the Old Xian cold noodles. This seems to be quite the popular dish here in the summer because when we sat down, our server warned us that they were running out of it. They had other varieties of their cold noodles but I decided to go with this one because it was recommended as a favourite on the menu even though it’s a vegetarian dish.

I was surprised that this dish came with two different variety of noodles. One was flatter and the other was thinner and rounder. The noodles were pretty simple being topped with a few tofu puffs, slices of cucumber and a vinegar + chili oil sauce. In my opinion there could have been more sauce on top but it was an easy fix because I just made more of my own using the sauces at the table. They also offer a sesame sauce version of this dish so if you’re looking for something with more flavor I’d go with that.

Quick bites

  1. Noodle heaven
  2. Straightforward menu with not a lot of choices to overwhelm you
  3. Cheap and filling
