OEB breakfast co. Vancouver

Hello brunch lovers a-like! A new brunch spot just opened up in Yaletown and it’s one that won’t disappoint. Oeb Breakfast Co. started off in Alberta. They became so popular that they decided to open a location in Vancouver. Oeb Breakfast Co. is now opening another location in Burnaby!

Mimosas

Upon arrival, Nat and I were greeted with mimosas. Despite the fact that it was 9:30am, we couldn’t turn them down. It was a good thing we didn’t too because they were addictingly delicious. Let me just tell you, they don’t skimp on the prosecco here.

With drinks in our hand, we were seated at a long cozy bar table that reminded us of the ones that you would find at a ramen restaurant. While some might find this type of seating to be a bit too snug, we didn’t mind.

If you plan on having a bigger get together, Oeb also has tables with more seating throughout the restaurant and we really liked that they added touches of yellow everywhere as an homage to the humble egg yolk.

Upon being seated we were offered a selection of beverages to choose from including coffee, tea, juices, and more mimosas. They offer espresso beverages and smoothies as well but they weren’t available on the day that we visited. Naturally they two of us ordered more mimosas because technically it has orange juice and orange juice is healthy right?

Berry smoothies

Shortly after, a server brought around samples of their berry smoothies to try out. The smoothie was packed in sweet berry flavor. It was a bit on the icy side but I didn’t mind because it was so good.

Oeb menu

Their menu had everything you would want on a brunch menu from your egg bennys and bacon to brand new creations like breakfast poutine.

Since they weren’t officially opened yet, we were given a reduced menu to choose from. Nat and I decided to choose two different menu items we were interested in to share so we could try a bit of everything.

While the egg benny options sounded delightful and they were served on butter croissants instead of your traditional English muffin, we decided to go with the threesome and chasing chicken instead because we wanted to try something different.

Threesome

The threesome came with your choice of eggs, waffles/pancakes/crepes/brioche, and bacon/chicken blueberry bangers/maple pork bangers/rosemary ham. It also came with a side of roasted potatoes, potato wedges fried in duck fat or pommes gaufrettes. We decided to go with the pancake, eggs and chicken blueberry bangers.

We decided to go with the pancake on the recommendation of our server (who was delightful by the way). He said that the pancakes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside and that was absolutely what it was. I haven’t had pancakes with a crispy exterior before so it was a breath of fresh air and definitely a new experience. Neither of us had anything like it before!

The chicken blueberry bangers were interesting as well. They had real whole blueberries on the inside that added bursts of sweetness and the bangers still had a bite to them so you wouldn’t know that it was chicken if it didn’t say so on the menu. It was a welcome change to your traditional breakfast sausages for sure.

Pommes Gaufrettes

We were about to get the roasted potatoes but we were convinced to get the pommes gaufrettes instead. These were wafer thin waffle cut chips that were fried in duckfat before being sprinkled with herbs and spices. Each chip was crispy and light which made them a delight to eat. A few of the chips weren’t as crunchy but it was easily overlooked because they were great overall.

Chasing chicken

The chasing chicken was a breakfast poutine complete with duck fat fried potato wedges, chicken, hollandaise sauce, saint cyrille cheese curds and poached eggs with paprika. I’m not a poutine kind of girl but I could go for this any time. The potato wedges held up to the weight of all the toppings and did not lose it’s crispy exterior.

The chicken was more than enough to go around so you could get some with each bite and the brown butter hollandaise sauce tied everything together without making the dish overly rich. As if that wasn’t enough, the gooey-ness of the rich yolk from the fresh eggs made everything all the more delicious. It might sound like a very rich dish but the saint cyrille curds added saltiness that help cut through some of the fat making the dish a wonderful bowl of guilty pleasure.

At the end of our brunch, we were given a basket of their fresh eggs that they get from a nearby farm. They also offer these for sale at the restaurant so if you are someone who enjoys having farm fresh eggs, you can get them here.

I can’t express how impressed I was with my visit to Oeb. From the great hospitality to the delicious and creative dishes, this is the definitely going to be the newest hot spot for brunch in Yaletown. I can see why they were able to expand from Alberta to Vancouver. So brunch lover or not, you won’t be disappointed with a visit to Oeb.
