We were craving pizza again so I decided to order some to bring home. Nonna Mia popped up on my food ordering app so I wanted to support the small business. Nonna Mia offers a variety of pizza, pastas, and appetizer dishes to choose from. Their prices are mid-range for Italian food with items starting at $12 going up to $18.
We had the hardest time trying to find the location of the restaurant because it had the same address as Trattoria. It turns out, Nonna Mia is located in the upstairs loft area of Trattoria in North Vancouver. We ended up having to go around the back of Trattoria and walking up a huge flight of stairs to pick up our food.
Ceaser salad
This salad was pretty decent but definitely not worth $12. The dressing tasted as though it was made in-house which was a plus. It had the perfect blend of zesty-ness and tang. I liked that they didn’t pre-dress the salad so we could decide how much dressing we wanted to add.
Tartufo polpette
This pizza was made with a base of truffle cream and topped with meat balls, oregano and fior di latte cheese. I thought this pizza had a light truffle flavour that blended well with the fior di latte cheese. I liked the meatballs on top as a protein choice but it was tricky to eat because they were too heavy to stay on parts of the pizza.
Margherita pizza
Your typical Margherita pizza topped with tomato sauce, mozzarella cheese and fresh basil. I am a huge fan of basil so I could have done with more of it but overall it was a tasty pizza. I love that they added tomato sauce on the side so you could add more to it if you liked! We enjoyed dipping our crust pieces in it like bread sticks!
Figura e patate
This was the most unique pizza we ordered. It was topped with pancetta, rosemary potatoes, gorgonzola cheese, fried figs and hot spicy. I liked how the honey sweetened the pizza and it paired nicely with the dried figs. The pancetta added smokiness and the potatoes added earthiness. This was our favourite out of the 3 pizzas we ordered.
Pomodoro pasta
Last but not least we ordered a pasta dish. There was nothing fancy about it. Just a simple pomodoro sauce, bail and spaghetti. The pomodoro sauce had lots of complex flavours to it. Even though I couldn’t see any in there, I’m pretty sure that there were a few olives in it too.
