I’m back with another review of viral brown sugar pearl ice cream bars! This time I try the Mr. Cool brown sugar pearl ice bars. The first thing I noticed about the name of the product is that they are “brown sugar pearl ice bars” instead of ice CREAM bars.
Compared to the ones from Shao Mei I reviewed last week, the Mr. Cool brown sugar pearl ice bars were much firmer when I took them out of the box. Where as the ones from Shao Mei were soft to the touch. These bars are also supposed to be milk tea flavour so I expected the flavour profile to be different as well.
The Mr. Cool brown sugar pearl ice bars were much firmer in texture hence being called an “ice bar.” While the Shao Mei bars were more similar to ice cream, these ones were more like popsicles. They held up better against the heat and they were also not as sweet. There was brown sugar flavour laced throughout the bar and it’s evident in the colour of the bar as well.
Another note is that the Mr. Cool ones did not have as many tapioca pearls! The one from Shao Mei had tapioca pearls in every bite whereas these did not. The pearls in these bars were also firmer and not as chewy in texture.
If you slide the image bar below, you will be able to compare the two brown sugar bars. The colour of the two bars are completely different. I personally find the Shao Mei (green background) ones more visually appealing because it looks like the brown sugar pearl drink!
These bars were $5 for a box of 4 whereas the ones from Shao Mei were $8 for 4. So price wise, these were definitely more worth the money. However, if you are looking for the bar that resembles brown sugar pearl drinks best, you’re better off paying the higher price for the ones from Shao Mei.
