Laksa King is one of the hole in the wall restaurants you can find along East Hastings. You’d miss it if you don’t pay attention because it has a small store front and you wouldn’t expect to see an 80’s diner on the inside! Laksa King offers a variety of delicious Malaysian dishes and has a food court stall at Crystal mall as well.

Mohingar

This is a must have when it comes to myanmar cuisine because it’s one of their staple dishes. Mohinga is a rice noodle dish made with a fish soup base and topped with egg, garlic, and fried chickpeas.

Although it doesn’t look like it from the picture, the soup was quite clear and light in flavor. I wish that there would have been a few pieces of fish in there but I enjoyed the crunchy texture of the chickpea on top! This was unexpectedly enjoyable.

Laksa

You can’t have Malaysian food without trying nice bowl of spicy laksa right? Laksa is a coconut based soup with notes of curry in it.

The ones I’ve had from most restaurants have been strong in coconut flavors but this one had more spice in it. In addition to the rice noodles, there were tofu puffs, shrimp, bean sprouts, onions and jalapenos because you can never have enough spice!

Sunday special

Since we came on a sunday, we just had to get the Sunday special! We didn’t really know what to expect but since it’s only available one day out of the week, we decided that we should take advantage of the opportunity.

It was a bowl of rice noodles in clear fish broth with bokchoy and various fish balls inside. We were a little disappointed with this dish because we expected there to be more to it since it’s only served once a week. It was mediocre and we thought that we could of had a bigger bowl for that price elsewhere.
