Kulinarya Malabon

The interior of Kulinarya Coquitlam was bright and colourful with tropical vibes throughout. The restaurant wasn’t very large on the inside with only 5 dining tables. Kulinarya Coquitlam is located along Glen Drive by Coquitlam Centre.

We ordered through Doordash because we did this before previously and it was a great experience. Unfortunately it was not the same this time around. Our Doordash order was accepted by the restaurant but whey we got there the restaurant was closed. We waited for 30 minutes for a staff member to arrive so we could inquire further but they didn’t know about our order.

We asked for our food as the order was processed and were told that they were closed for a special event. Eventually, we convinced them to make us the dishes we ordered. However, we had to change one of them because they were not willing to make the pork belly dish. We chose a different dish, the Malabon but were told that it was “more expensive” so had to pick something else. Long story sort, we eventually changed our order and left disappointed with the customer service.

Malabon

After going through so much trouble to get this dish, we hoped that it was a good one. The noodles in this dish was soft and didn’t have much texture to it. The dish had bits of pork and shrimp. We thought that the dish had lots of flavourful notes to it but was confusing because it was almost as though there were too many flavours going on. We also would have appreciated it if there were more textures since everything was soft. The fish flakes that were added on top gave the dish umami flavour.

Chicken curry

This chicken curry was okay and nothing particularly stood out about it. It had rich coconut notes and hints of spice. There were also pieces of pineapples to add sweetness. We liked how there was a big assortment of vegetables that came with the dish and large pieces of chicken as well. The dish didn’t come with rice so make sure you remember to order it if you don’t have any at home!

Chicken adobo

Chicken adobo is a traditional Filipino dish so we had to try it out! The chicken was packed full of vinegary, sweet, and soy sauce flavour. We were the most excited to try this dish because they are known for it. The chicken was tender and we loved eating the extra sauce on top of rice! Out of all the dishes we ordered, this was easily our favourite one.
