Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba is one of my FAVOURITE Japanese noodle spots in town. It’s unlike any type of noodle I’ve had before. I’ve only visited their downtown location so imagine my surprise to find that there’s now a Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba Lougheed location! This noodle spot is located on North Road across from Lougheed Town Centre.

The interior of the restaurant is full of booth seating which is great for small groups. They do not have large tables so I don’t suggest planning to come here for a party. The restaurant is brightly lit with woodsy and clean modern decor. I love how they have neon light cut out of a bowl of noodles!

Zenbu mazesoba

Zenbu Mazesoba is perfect for those who are indecisive because it has EVERYTHING in it! The multi-grain soba noodles are topped with slow-braised pork chashu, spicy ground pork, a soft boiled egg, seaweed, bamboo shoots, seaweed flakes, chives, green onions, minced garlic, and ground saba fish flakes! Each bowl of mazesoba comes with a small bowl of rice for you to mix with all the leftover toppings.

After we mixed everything together, our bowl became a colourful mixture. The noodles were very creamy and packed full of rich pork flavour. Even though the ground pork was spicy, there was enough toppings and creaminess in it to mellow it out. The pieces of chashu were a little crispy on the edges and had a good mix of lean and fatty pieces. The soft boiled eggs were my favourite part because the yolk was still gooey. The eggs were also marinated and full of soy flavour! Even though Grayson and I were sharing a bowl, we were both pretty full by the end of it because of how comforting it was.

Fuji cheese cup cake

This has been a dessert I’ve been eyeing here for a while. This is their version of a soft Japanese cheese cake. It’s not a very large dessert hence the name “cup cake” but it was a delicious one. I wouldn’t say it’s anything like a cup cake because the texture of it was more pillowy, creamy and smooth. The cheese flavour in the dessert was very strong and it was as though we were having very fluffy cheese!

At the bottom of the cup, there was a layer of finely crushed chocolate cookie crumbs. I thought this added and odd grainy texture to the cheese cup but Grayson enjoyed the bitterness it added to balance out the richness. My favourite part about the whole thing was the cute shovel shaped spoons! It would be so neat if the cheese part was matcha flavoured so it’s green so when you dig under it you get the cookie crumb dirt!

Needless to say we are in love with Kokoro Tokyo Mazesoba and are so glad they have opened a location closer to home!
