Ki Tea House Cafe

We are back to Ki for more tea! Ki Tea House Cafe is a spot located by Royal Oak skytrain station. They offer bubble tea drinks, soft serve ice cream, and homemade Japanese style desserts and pastries! We usually come for tea but this time we decided to come for desserts!

Cookies and pastries

Since the last time we visited, Ki Tea House Cafe has expanded their dessert menu. They now offer Japanese pudding (black sesame, chocolate, and original flavour), tiramisu (sakura, coffee and berry flavour), Japanese souffle cheesecake, Matcha berry mousse cake, Russion tea cake, Lemon cheese cake, and Matcha roll cake. They never cease to surprise us with what they offer.

Sakura Shake

One of the fanciest shakes I’ve ever had! It had red bean on the bottom and was topped with pudding and salted cream! The shake had a light floral note to it and the flavours went together well. I wish that there was more flavour to the foam on top because it was quite neutral but otherwise, great drink!

Sakura Mont Blanc

I’ve never had a Sakura flavoured cake before so I was thoroughly intrigued! Grayson’s favourite part was the shortbread crust on the bottom. It was nice and buttery but held up against the toppings on the inside. The paste on top had a light florally flavour to it that wasn’t over the top. It had a layer of whipped cream under it and a strawberry was hidden underneath! I wasn’t a fan of the strawberry part because it made the cake hard to eat.

Mango Jasmine Tea

We decided to get a tea to share and went with the Mango Jasmine Tea because it sounded refreshing. We didn’t get it sweetened but it was still sweet with mango flavour. Unfortunately, we didn’t taste much of the Jasmine Tea so it was more like having a refreshing cup of mango juice! The pearls were pretty chewy but not the best we’ve had. We’d order this again!

Matcha choco parfait waffle

For our dessert, we decided to try their Matcha choco parfait waffle. The waffle was topped with whipped cream, corn flakes, chocolate syrup, and a chocolate raspberry macaron. It also comes with ice cream and panna cotta but they gave those to us on the side.

The waffle had matcha powder in it but we didn’t really taste the matcha flavour under all the whipped cream. With that being said, the waffle was nice and fluffy. We appreciated the textural crunch the corn flakes added and the chocolate drizzle added a decadent touch. We weren’t fans of the macaron because it tasted artificial and it wasn’t crunchy since it was on the waffle.

I appreciated that they put the ice cream and panna cotta on the side because it helped the waffle stay crispy. Since the vanilla ice cream was in a styrofoam container, it survived the 15 minute car ride pretty well. The panna cotta was on the firmer side but it packed a flavourful matcha punch. For a matcha waffle, I was missing the matcha punch but we did enjoy the dessert and would come back to try some of their other ones.
