Hello tapas fans. If you are a lover of all things Japanese izakaya, you probably would of been to one Guu outlet or another by now. I’ve been to Guu garlic and Guu original in the past but never Guu with Otokomae so I finally decided to go by.

The good thing about the Guu with Otokomae Gastown location is that 1) there is parking nearby and 2) less people come to this one so getting a table is much easier. Another thing is that even if your entire party isn’t there on time, you don’t lose your table because they just put a “booking time” of 2 hours on your table and you get to have it until your time is up. So regardless of when people arrive, you still have a place to sit. I’m not sure if this is the same for all the Guu locations but it was the case for this one.

So for some reason our entire party decided to order stone bowl rices. Our server said that it was the first time that this had ever happened to her. I’m not surprised because I’m sure people would order more tapas. Perhaps everyone that went with me just had the same kind of ideas.

Beef steak rice bowl

This one came with chunks of medium rare steak and egg. The bowl was then mixed up by the server and served. I mean I understand why they mix it for you but it’s so much funner to mix yourself!

Mushroom cheese bibimbap

Unlike the rest of the group who got the steak bowl, I decided to get the mushroom cheese bibimbap. I’m not sure why this one was called a bibimbap instead of a bowl like the steak version. It was essentially the same thing but with different toppings? Anyways, I had this without the cheese and thought that it was pretty standard of a bowl. Just rice with mushrooms and wakame seaweed sauce. I don’t think it was anything too spectacular or rave about but it was filling and worth the price.

If you’re looking for a place to hang out for tapas and good drinks, this is the place to go. The restaurant has a designated seating area on the upper floor with a bar on the lower level so it’s nice for any type of occasion. Reservations can also be made online to make everything easier too.
