131 kitchen and wetbar

Hello friends! My friends and I have game night every once in a while but we decided to go to a board game bar this time instead. 131 kitchen and wetbar is located in Gastown and they offer a variety of board games to play during your stay. 131 kitchen also has happy hour offerings from 3-6pm and 9pm- close!

We all ordered a drink because hurray for happy hour prices! $4 highballs, $6 doubles, and $2 off appys!

Popcorn chicken

Grayson and I decided to share the popcorn chicken appy. He also decided to get a mini fish and chip. The popcorn chicken tasted very strange for lack of better words. The chicken didn’t have a usual chicken texture or flavor. Instead it was very tough and stringy almost as though it was fried gluten or another type of vegan meat. It was just strange. The crispy exterior on the outside and honey mustard helped but not much.

Fish finger

The mini fish and chips is $3 and was basically a fish finger. It was battered well and the cod was flaky on the inside. The tartar sauce could have been on the side to prevent the crispy outside from getting soft but Grayson didn’t mind it too much.

Fish tacos and yam fries

Nat and Kamila decided to get the fish tacos and yam fries. The fish tacos came with one piece of fried fish each. The fried piece of cod was basically the same one that Grayson had on his plate but these were put into tacos instead. Each taco was topped with cabbage and tomatoes. Nat said that the tacos weren’t very flavorful because nothing much was going on with them. They could have been elevated with more fresh salsa on top.

Her yam fries never came because the server forgot to punch it into the machine so she ended up cancelling the order.

Once we were finished eating, we decided to play some board games. Every time we’ve been to 131 before, their games had been missing pieces so we decided to bring our own. I assumed it was okay for us to do that because they didn’t say anything and it was a board game bar so I suggest you do the same if you decide to pop by!
