The Viet Noodle Guy

Hello friends! I finally made my way to The Viet Noodle Guy almost a year after it first opened. Although I’m not a huge fan of Vietnamese food, I’ve heard from quite a few people that the portions are generous and prices are fair so I decided to pay them a visit with Oracle.

Viet Noodle Guy interior

The interior of Viet Noodle Guy had lots of natural lighting because of it’s huge glass windows but this also meant that the restaurant heated up quick. This was evident on the hot day that we went. At the back of the restaurant, there was a staircase that led up to a mini “cafe” of sorts that served Vietnamese sandwiches.

Seafood pho

I decided to get the seafood pho because I wanted to have a bowl of warm and cozy noodles. The broth didn’t have any flavour to it so it might as well have not been there. This was a pretty generous amount of noodles for $10.55. Other pho joints in the North Burnaby area go for $8-9. As for the seafood, there was a reasonable amount of fish balls, shrimp, imitation crab and a few squid rings.

House special vermicelli

Oracle got the house special vermicelli ($12.50), it came with a mountain of roasted chicken, beef and pork on one side and salad greens on the other with a spring roll down the middle to separate the two sides. The meat was flavorful and had a sweetness to it which complimented the roasted flavor from the grill. They didn’t give a lot of fish sauce to mix with given the portion size of the bowl so they could have done better with making sure there was enough to cover the noodles. Since the portion was large, Oracle packed 1/3 of it to take home.

The two of us left the restaurant with full and happy bellies but not even 30 minutes later, we were both super thirsty which indicated to us that they used quite a bit of MSG in the food which we weren’t a fan of so despite the large portions, I might need to rethink revisiting.

Quick bites:

  1. big portions
  2. lots of MSG used
  3. good menu variety
