The other day I came across the Tacofino foodtruck, and I ended up thinking about tacos nonstop for the next few days. So, I ended up going back to Tacofino that same weekend to get myself some of those tacos.

Tacofino menu

Both my friend and I decided to get tacos because they were 2 for $10 and we wanted to try a few of them. That and upon seeing the size of the burritos the people next to us had, we didn’t think we would be able to finish one on our own.

Potato taco

My friend decided to get the tuna taco and the crispy potato taco. Contrary to what you may think when you hear potato taco, it doesn’t actually have potato on the inside of it. Instead, the potato is mashed and then fried to create a perfect taco shelled. Then it’s filled with queso fresco, lettuce, cheddar, and salsa fresca. I thought that the potato shell was a pretty unique thing. I’ve never seen anything like it before and it was like having a hashbrown sandwich!

Yam tempura taco

I decided to get the tuna taco and the yam tempura taco. The yam taco’s flour tortilla contained a piece of crispy yam tempura, cabbage, green onion and plum sauce. I’m not a fan of tempura but I didn’t mind this one because it wasn’t oily at all. I wouldn’t say that it was absolutely amazing but it was a pretty darn good taco. I only wish that there was more to it. It felt a little plain since it only really had cabbage on the inside.

Tuna taco

I saved the best for last because I absolutely LOVED the tuna taco. At first I thought that this taco would end up tasting weird because I thought that combining Mexican and Japanese cuisine together would be pushing the envelope a little too far but I love wakame salad and tuna so I decided to take an adventuresome chance.

Anyways, this little delight contained a GIANT PIECE of tuna tataki (seared tuna), cabbage, sesame seeds, wakame seaweed, ginger, wasabi mayo and tomatoes. I wish I ordered two of these because for $5 each, this taco was definitely worth the money especially since the piece of tuna was so big and the toppings were piled sky high!
