It’s been a while since I’ve been to sushimoto. Sushimoto is located next to Holdom skytrain station. It’s not a big restaurant but there’s enough room for smaller parties.
To start we got the daily sashimi special which came with two slices of snapper, arctic surf clam, salmon and tuna. Something I love about sushimoto is that when you order sashimi, they give you a bowl of sushi rice with it. I love making my own nigiri rolls using the rice! The seafood here is always super fresh here. It is at a higher price point than other sushi restaurants in the area but so worth it!
Next was the kitsune udon to get something warm. Nothing special here, just udon noodles in a light dashi broth with some fish cake on top.
The chopped scallop roll was 50% cucumber and 50% scallop. While we enjoyed having the textural crunch of the cucumber, it could have used more scallop being that it was a scallop roll.
The sexy wakame roll is one of my favorites because I loveeeee seaweed salad! The seaweed is marinaded in sesame sauce and like the chopped scallop roll, the cucumber added crunch.
The yellow submarine roll was a new one for us because we never tried it before. It had a soy paper wrap on the outside instead of seaweed and it was topped with a cheesy mayo sauce. Unlike most rolls, this roll was served hot because it was baked in the oven for a while. This was confusing at first because we’re so used to having cold sushi. This roll was packed with ingredients including oshinko pickle, imitation crab, and fish. However, I’m not sure if it was because it was baked or if it wasn’t wrapped well but the roll came apart very easily so it was hard to eat.
Last but not least was the awesome cream cheese roll which was essentially a california roll with cream cheese in it then topped with grilled salmon and bonito flaked. The roll mostly tasted like cream cheese but lil’ bun didn’t mind because she loves the stuff. Brother deer doesn’t like fish so I had the oh so “terrible” job of eating all the salmon on top so he could eat just the rolls. 🙂
