Singapore Hawker

A new Singaporean restaurant opened up in Coquitlam! Singapore Hawker is located just behind Coquitlam Centre and it’s the full Singaporean dining experience! At Singapore Hawker, you order at the cashier when you walk into the restaurant before finding a spot to sit at.

It is similar to a fast food restaurant where you wait for your number to be called then pick up your food at the collecting station. This made the restaurant feel much more casual.

You need to get your own cutlery as well which I’m never a fan of because the germs. I think that cutlery should never be put in a container for everyone to touch and grab unless they par packaged. Grayson and I ended up cleaning ours the best we could using the hot water they provided. Better than nothing right?

Hainanese chicken rice

Grayson ordered the Hainanese chicken rice. They offered this dish with ginger rice but he preferred plain rice. He liked that it came with a bowl of chicken broth and he said that it was very fragrant. Just looking at the chicken beside him, I could tell that it would be super juicy because of the way it glistened.

I was right because Grayson said the chicken was juicy and delicious. He even said it was better than the one he had at Green and Oak. Grayson said that he liked that it came with a few veggies on the side and two types of sauces! The sauces it came with included a ginger scallion oil and a sweet chili sauce.

Singapore laksa

There was a Malaysian Laksa as well but the only difference is that the Malaysian one came with egg noodles and the Singapore one with rice noodles. I went with the Singapore Laksa.

The broth was very creamy because of the addition of coconut broth. Even though there was coconut in it, the heat still came through. I loved how the tofu puffs soaked up the broth. The dish also came with shrimp, half an egg, fish balls and fish tofu. Everything in the dish came together nicely and I would definitely have it again. I do have to say that the portion-size was smaller than what I expected it to be for $12 a bowl especially since this was a casual restaurant.
