A couple weeks ago, a few friends and I decided to have a girls brunch and gossip session. I’ve never used pancake mix before since I’m more of a make it at home from scratch type of person, but since she had pancake mix and a waffle iron…we decided to make ourselves some waffles. So, here’s my first experience with…Aunt Jemima complete buttermilk just add water pancake mix.
It’s pretty simple to use, basically all you need, like the box says, is water (well and vegetable oil). Here’s a picture of the instructions we used
We ended up using 1/3 of the recipe, and it made four 4×4″ waffles. Of course you could always add chocochips to the batter or fruits and all that other good stuff, but we opted to be all boring and go for the original.
A few minutes later we were left with nice toasty crispy on the edge waffles! Make sure you remember to oil your waffle iron or frying pan (if you’re making pancakes) each time you make a new batch or you’ll end up like us having to try to pry your waffle off the pan..which is quite difficult if you want your waffles to stay pretty. We added some nesquick chocolate sundae drizzle on top and some fruit on the side and that was brunch (:
What did I think of the mix?
I thought that the waffle was on the drier side and when I bit into it and the buttermilk flavor was quite distinct. If you’re eating it without syrup, you’ll find it tasting a little flour-y as well. I enjoyed it though, since I love waffles, and as long as it tastes like a waffle and it’s crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, it’s good enough for me.
