Bran oh bran oh bran. So what’s the deal about bran and why is it good for you? Bran is one of those high fiber foods that helps you feel full for a longer period of time which really comes in handy if you’re trying to lose a little bit of what I call “extra cookie weight”. In addition to that, fiber helps lower cholesterol, blood pressure, and inflammation as well as help regulate blood sugar.As with most grain products, bran is high in the mineral selenium that help fight against free radicals to reduce cancer risk. It also has a good amount of protein and phenylalanine in it to keep your brain functioning in tip top shape.
Clean. Simple. Ingredients.
1 cup bran buds or oatmeal (feel free to add in nuts as well if you like)
1/2 cup DARK CHOCOLATE
Melt the dark chocolate and stir in the bran buds. Drop the mixture by the tablespoon onto a lined cookie sheet and put them in the fridge for 1 – 2 hours until firm.
These bran clusters are taste similarly to those no-bake chocolate oatmeal cookies floating around the inter-web these days except with bran buds instead of oatmeal. They’re also a little nostalgic for me because they remind me of when I made them in high school home ec class. Bran isn’t the most flavorful food out there so having them coated in chocolate makes them more palatable. Sometimes I’ll even toss a bit of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit in there to make them more flavorful as well.
