La Forêt Bakery Cafe

La Forêt Bakery Cafe is located in Burnaby near Metrotown mall. It’s tucked right behind Bonsor Rec Centre and you would definitely miss it if you weren’t looking. La Forêt Bakery Cafe may look a little “warehouse-y” on the outside but once you step through that little clear door, you’re transported in the most gorgeous cafe!

The moment you step into La Forêt Bakery Cafe you are overwhelmed by all the smells from the pastries. There’s an area when you walk in where you can select breads, croissants and danishes to buy to take home. They are tax free if you pick 6 or more.

Further in from the doorway is a payment counter with a pastry case where they had an assortment of layered cakes, tiramisu, roll cakes and macarons! Their cakes range from $6-9 a slice depending on the type you pick. They all looked so gorgeous but that was not what we were here for that particular day.

Mango waffle

What we came for were their delightful waffles! They have a strawberry waffle, matcha waffle, chocolate banana and a mango. We opted for the mango one and it was the perfect choice!

The large crispy waffle was topped with two scoops of mango ice cream and a nice dollop of whipped cream. I liked that the mangoes that adorned the waffle weren’t too sweet because it helped balance out the sweetness of the ice cream on top. The mango jelly? puree? on top of the waffle was a little coagulated so it wasn’t the best consistency for spreading but it was tasty never the less. I was surprised that the whipped cream had mango flavouring to it too! Needless to say, the waffle was a hit and we will be back to enjoy more of their cakes!
