Harrod’s tea room

Hello friends! I’ve never been one to particularly enjoy high tea but being in London, I just couldn’t leave without having it at Harrod’s tea room! While there were lots of other high tea spots to try in town, we decided to go with Harrod’s tea room because in our opinion, it was the most iconic location to try it out.

Harrod’s tea room interior

The tea room at Harrod’s is located on one of the upper floors of the large department store. Tea service is served until late noon but if you don’t have the time to sit in, you are able to by some pastries on the first level to take home instead.

The interior of the tea room was absolutely gorgeous. There were paintings and intricate decorations everywhere you looked. We couldn’t help but feel out of place being that we weren’t dressed particularly fancy. It didn’t matter though because despite the fact that we didn’t go in feeling posh, we felt posh once we got seated at our table.

Harrod’s tea set

Mother Deer wasn’t particularly hungry so she ordered a tea set. She got it with English breakfast tea with milk on the side. Typically she wouldn’t drink her tea with milk but when in London, you just have to right? She said the milk helped mellow out the flavour of the strong tea in a pleasant way.

Scones

Her tea set also came with a couple of scones. The scones were unlike any I’ve had before and this is coming from someone who isn’t too fond of scones! The scones were flaky with hints of vanilla and I swear I’m still dreaming about the clotted cream it came with. It was absolutely divine! Why do we not have our scones served with clotted cream regularly?

Bacon Quiche

I decided to try the bacon quiche. Yeah I know, it’s not something I would typically get but I wanted to try something different. The quiche crust was very buttery in the good way. You could tell that they used premium ingredients which made it worth the wait and price ($16!). The filling was very rich and creamy with the cheese, bacon and onion on the inside. Luckily, it came with greens and a light vinaigrette on top to balance it out.

Croque Monsieur

Old bean decided to get the croque monsieur. A French dish which is basically a ham and cheese sandwich with more cheese on top because why not! I’ve only ever seen it served open-faced so it was neat to see it served like a sandwich. It was almost as though they were trying to make it look like the iconic English cheese toastie! The dish was a bit too rich for Old bean so he only got through half of it but it was pretty tasty! It seems that food being rich is a trend we’ve been noticing in England….

Meat pie

Last but not least was pot pie because how can you visit London without trying a meat pie? Similarly to the quiche crust, the meat pie crust was also buttery but not flaky like you would typically find with chicken pot pie in Canada. The firmness of the crust helped keep in the contents of the pie. The meat on the inside was so juicy and tender that you almost didn’t need to add the sauce on top of it. I’ve never been a fan of pie, but I might be converted after this one!
