Fresh prep meal kit is a service in Vancouver. They deliver the ingredients necessary to create delicious curated recipes right to your door.

Fresh prep meal kit offers a variety of options to meet dietary needs and have different meal plans for you to choose from. You can choose the number of portions you need in a week or how many people you are feeding. All the meals can be prepared under an hour and all the prep work is done for you already!

Each recipe comes with a simple instruction sheet to let you know how to prepare your meal. I appreciate that the recipe is only a 4 step process. It would be more helpful if they showed a photo of each of the steps as well.

Fresh prep Apple pork chops

The first recipe that we decided to try were the Apple Porkchops. Most of the ingredients used in the recipe were packaged in plastic bags and pre-cut which made it easier for us to prepare the dish.

The strange thing was that the diced sweet potatoes and squash it came with had a strange vinegary smell to it. I’m not sure if that was because there was a preservative in it or what it was but they were pretty much inedible. We tried to soak them in water hoping to get rid of the smell but it didn’t work because it was still present after we baked them. In the end, we decided to throw them out.

The rest of the recipe preparation went smoothly. We could have cooked the apples down a bit more so that they turn out a little softer but we wanted to follow the recipe provided.

The porkchops turned out very nicely. The apples added a warmth to the dish and reminded us of the harvest season. We also liked that the portions of pork-chop were pretty generous for two people. However since we threw out the potatoes, we didn’t feel full after we finished the meal. Luckily, we had a few bread rolls lying around to help make up the difference.

Thai chicken curry

The other recipe we tried was the Thai curry. I was super excited for this recipe because I rarely ever make curry at home. Similar to the pork chops, each ingredient is packed up separately for you. Since there are quite a few ingredients used to make curry, we had quite a bit of plastic to throw out afterwards. We weren’t a fan of how much plastic we ended up throwing out to create this one dish so if there could be a more eco-friendly alternative, we would be more on board with it.

The Thai curry was relatively simple to make. It had lots of vegetables in it and plenty of chicken throughout as well. The curry wasn’t very spicy in flavour but it had the spices necessary to remind you of curry.

We thought that the recipe was a bit too watery though because we ended up having lots of curry sauce but not enough vegetables and chicken to distribute throughout the dish. However when we went to eat left overs the next day, the curry had thickened up a bit making it more sauce-like.

The curry also came with a bag of jasmine rice. There was just enough for the two of us but if you are someone who eats larger portions, it probably won’t be enough for you.

All in all, we enjoyed both of the meals we ordered from Freshprep. There service was great and our meal kit was delivered at an appropriate time with warning ahead of time so we would be home to receive the package.

I’ve only tried two of the meals so I can’t speak to the other recipes but I would definitely try ordering from Freshprep again because it allows me to try out new recipes. I am an adventurous cook but I also don’t like having to buy a bunch of ingredients to make one dish. I think meal services are perfect for solving that problem because they pack everything you need for you!
