I have not been to downtown Vancouver in almost a year now and wow the food scene has changed! There are poke shops and ramen restaurants everywhere!
Grayson and a few of his friends went to Yuzu Shokutei a month back and raved about it so it was only natural that we came by for dinner after going to an event along West 4th.
The thing that Grayson liked the most about this place was how great there service was and how they treated their guests. They constantly came by to fill up our water glasses and ask us how our food was tasting.
To be honest, I’m not a ramen lover. I know it’s crazy but it’s true. I’ve just never been a fan of chashu so I could never get into your typical ramen dishes. Lucky for me, they offered this delicious looking spicy vegetarian tantan noodle bowl here!
The broth was incredibly creamy and you could taste the nuttiness of the sesame through the richness of the broth. If I didn’t know better I would of that that it was pork-bone based! The noodles were cooked to al dente perfection and the bowl was filled with shiitake mushrooms, bamboo shoots, enoki mushrooms and cabbage. It was delightfully addicting.
Despite the fact that Grayson took me here to eat ramen, he didn’t even order ramen for himself! What he got was the katsu curry because he’s taken a liking to the dish lately and is determined to try all the katsu curry out there. The ironic thing is that he can’t handle eating spicy food so at least he has the sweetness of Japanese curry going for him 🙂
All the way from across the table I could already tell that the katsu was fried well because it looked so crispy. The curry didn’t have any veggies in it but the good thing about it is that it came with a side of miso soup, light salad and pickled cucumbers. Another thing that’s neat about this place is that you can have them refill your sides free of charge!
All in all we had an amazing visit and I think it’s safe to say that I will be giving ramen a second change especially if it’s from here!
