I haven’t gone out for Hong Kong cafe food in a really long time. As a matter of fact, I think that it’s been at least half a year since we had it last. We ended up going to Tasty Rice Noodle because I’ve heard it took over Deer Garden a few months ago.
I decided to go with their signature noodle soup combination ($8.95) because I love my noodle soup. They provide you with a piece of paper where you can check off your soup selection, toppings, noodle type and drink. I thought that this was a pretty smart idea because all you had to do was fill it out and your server would already know your entire order.
I decided to go with the tomato pumpkin soup with rice noodles, fish fillet, and siu choy with hot lemon tea as my drink. I also requested that they put my noodles on the side in a separate bowl because I knew I wouldn’t be able to finish it and I didn’t want my noodles to get all soggy when I packed it up. I doubt my server ever hears an order like this but she happily obliged to my request which I thought was really nice.
Mother deer decided to get the same but with pepper and ginger fish soup. She chose to get it with rice noodle as well and had it with bok choy and fish fillet. She said the soup was okay but there wasn’t much pepper or ginger flavor to it which was disappointing.
It could of used more fish too but you get what you pay for right? And I guess in this case you’re paying for noodles…
