Earls Test Kitchen

I should feel bad about going to happy hour enough to get 3 of these up in a week but….I’m not because when life gives you lemons…put them in a moscow mule right? We decided to go to Earls Test Kitchen because it was one of the only restaurants willing to host a large party on a Saturday night. Bonus points to Earls Test Kitchen for that!

Strawberry moscow mule

I started off with a strawberry moscow mule. It was a nice rendition of the original. However, all you could taste was the strawberry syrup and faint taste of ginger beer. I’ve definitely had better like the ones from Brix and Mortar so I didn’t order it on the next round.

Naked highball

Next, I decided to try one of their new naked highballs which is a sugar-free highball. Turns out, that was a bad call too because it was not good. The flavour was bitter! I couldn’t tell what it tasted like but it was definitely not “tropical” by any means.

Street tacos

Two drinks in, I started to get hungry so I got some of their street tacos. These were flavorful and spicier than you would expect! If you’re not a fan of spicy food, I would shy away from these. I also liked that they make these with corn tortillas instead of flour ones. I find that corn tortillas hold up to salsa better and add another level of flavour.

Margherita pizza

Grayson ordered the $4 margherita pizza and added salami for an extra $1. The first pizza he ordered was well under-cooked and the bottom of the crust was doughy so he sent it back. Luckily, the second time was much better and the crust was thin and crispy the way that it should be. He said the pizza was topped with a sparse amount of ingredients but for $4, it’s to be expected.

While I like the vibes at Earls Test Kitchen, the food and drinks didn’t impress me here. I can’t say that it’s all bad because they do have great drinks and I heard raving reviews about their burgers but it’ll be hard for me to come back after an experience like this.

With that being said, I do enjoy their happy hour deals so I’ll probably be back but maybe I’ll stick to the bridge park or metrotown location for the time being.
